We’ll provide a set of pre-operative instructions that explain how to prepare for the liposuction procedure. This will cover things like activities, foods and medications to avoid prior to surgery. It’s important that you familiarize yourself with and follow those instructions, and then arrange for a responsible adult to be available to take you home after the surgery. You may also need further assistance from them for at least the first 24 hours.
Day of Surgery
You’ll meet with Dr. Griner and the anesthesiologist prior to surgery so you can ask any last-minute questions. The actual length of the surgery varies for each patient depending on how much fat needs to be removed. Dr. Griner will discuss this with you and answer any other questions prior to the day of surgery. After the procedure is complete, you’ll be moved into your recovery room where you can recuperate for 1 to 1 1/2 hours before being discharged.
In most cases, patients are able to return home the same day. Some swelling and tenderness are normal, though, so we can also prescribe medication to help manage your pain. Depending on your individual situation, we may recommend avoiding regular activity for approximately seven days. Dr. Griner will provide more detailed instructions on your specific road map for post-liposuction recovery.
